The easiest 3.000 m high mountain in the Ortles region

The Hintere Schöntaufspitze in Sulden

At a glance: by cable-car from Sulden, South Tyrols’s highest village, up to the high regions and then an alpine walk without much effort but with wonderful panoramic views to the whole Ortles range. Rest stop possible at top station of the cable-car, on the Schaubachhütte/Alpine hut Schaubach(2573 m) or the Madritschhütte/Alpine hut Madritsch (2817 m).

Best time: Summer and autumn til October, best months are July and September

Joys: the stunnung panoramic views to the photogenic trio of mountains, the Ortles, Zebru and Königsspitze

Efforts: 750 m of easy to medium ascent, high alpine equipment necessary, not difficult, very rewarding, total walking time: 4 hours

Starting point: Sulden (1844 m), reachable by car or regular bus. The walk starts from the top station (2581 m) of the cable-car (first ride in summer at 7 am)

Sulden

Route: at the end of the Sulden/Solda valley take the 1 cable-car, then on path no. 151 gently upwards to the Madritschjoch and then along an easy ridge to the 2 summit of the Hintere Schöntaufspitze (3320 m). Return the same way.
