From St. Martin/ San Martino to Schlanders/Silandro

A walk along the “Vinschgauer Sonnenberg”

At a glance: There are many walks which lead through the “Vinschgauer Sonnenberg” (sunny mountain) to St. Martin am Kofel. This route takes you up from Latsch/Laces by cable-car to the mountain village (1736 m) with its church and superb views. Then the path sweeps westwards, passing the Egg and Forra mountain farms, clinging precariously to the steep slopes, descending to Schlanders/Silandro via the Schlandersburg castle.

Best time: can be walked throughout the year, best time early spring and autumm, in summer a bit too hot

Joys: the stunning views to the valley and the glaciers

Efforts: The path descends 1000 m and is a little steep towards the end. Apart from that it is an easy full-day walk. Walking time: around 3 hours

Starting point: Cable-car station in Latsch/Laces, reachable also by bus

Sonnenberg

Route: by cable-car to 1 St. Martin/San Martino, then on path no. 14, first flat, then downhill along the Sonnenberg (sunny mountain) to 2 Schlandersburg castle. From there short, steep descent to 3 Schlanders/Silandro and return by bus to the valley station of the cable-car in Latsch/Laces.
