Meran and the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle

The famous spa-city of Meran

With its beautiful old town, the arcades with their bars, restaurants, little shops and boutiques, the Passer Promenade with rest benches, ice cream parlours and their Mediterranean vegetation with cypresses, palms and olive trees, Meran, South Tyrol’s second largest city, is always worth a visit.

The large weekly market on Friday is extremely popular among our guests, because then the streets near the railway station are transforming in a huge market area where you may haggle and bargain all’italiana. Experiencing this atmosphere is already a big adventure – but don’t worry, on the huge market every woman will be right in her element.

The botanical Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle are highly recommended. If you want to visit Meran AND the gardens, a one-day trip is too short. In more than 80 gardens you can enjoy plants from all over the world, thus all throughout the year there are more than a thousand of blossoms to admire. That sounds a lot like botanic, but it is a true and unforgettable experience for everyone.

Various leisure activities make your visit in the gardens an adventure. The swinging suspension bridge, the accessible beehive, the dragonfly clock, the grotto with its multi-media show, the sounding stones, and the glass house with terrarium, many different animals and the Touriseum provide plenty of variety.

For your trip to Meran we recommend leaving the car in our hotel. In this way, you can get away from the parking problem on Fridays during the summer months. In the period from April to October you may take advantage of our free Venosta Valley Card. With this card you can use the “Vinschger” railway which brings you comfortably from Spondinig to the city centre of Meran.
