The ideal excursion destination for families in the middle of nature. Barbecue areas and benches invite for a picnic and the little ones will enjoy the forest and its river bed offering a unique outdoor playground. A beautiful hiking tour to the waterfall may be combined with the excursion.
In the 13th century, at this place, shepherd Moritz saw three runlets breaking out of the rock. Every runlet was carrying a cross. Two of the crosses he could fish out from water, the third one swept away. Both of the crosses were hung up in the churches of Stilfs and St. Johann in the Münster valley.
In the 15th century, the idyllic place almost here on the sources of the river, was declared a place of pilgrimage to the Virgin Mary and a chapel was built. The sources were said to have healing qualities. The place of pilgrimage has always been a point of interest for pilgrims seeking for peace and quiet, hikers and visitors from far and near. The miraculous image of the Mother of God spends the summer at the place of pilgrimage and the snowy winter at the parish church in Trafoi.
Next to the little pilgrimage chapel, where according to the legend a couple of miracles had happened, there is a little chapel and a well house. There you can read about the legend of the tree Holy Wells of Trafoi.
By foot:
Follow path n° 8, about 3 km from the village of Trafoi, passing the visitor centre Naturatrafoi and the parish church. Also accessible for bikes and buggies.
By car:
After the village of Trafoi turn left into the forest, passing the Camping Trafoi until the parking space at the river.
